Family Services

As part of county government’s responsibility to provide an array of services, it is the mission of the Wilkin County Family Service Agency to:

  • Provide financial and social services to county residents who meet specific eligibility criteria in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Maintain and enhance a professional helping relationship with all individuals whom we serve.
  • Maintain a philosophical attitude as to the importance of keeping families intact, treating clients with respect, and dealing with clients at their level of need.
  • Build and maintain effective community relationships, and develop community support and resources to carry out our mission. 

Volunteer Drivers Needed

Lend a helping hand by driving others to their destinations

Drivers are: 

• Reimbursed for mileage while volunteering to transport community members

• Able to choose hours and availability as much as you like

Foster and Respite Care Needed

Foster parents receive support through:

• Training provided by the Minnesota Child Welfare Training System

• Foster parents who are members of a team, working together with county case managers and children’s biological families to care for children’s needs. Foster parents may also receive support and guidance from professionals in mental health, educational and medical services based on individual children’s needs.

• Monthly financial reimbursement for care they provide to foster children.

Civil Rights Statement

In accordance with federal civil rights law, regulations, and policies, Wilkin County is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.

To file a discrimination complaint, contact the County Administrator’s office, by calling (218) 643-7177, or by writing a letter addressed to Wilkin County Administrator, 505 S. 8th St. Breckenridge, MN 56520. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the County Administrator about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation.
