Junior Envirothon
Students from St. Mary's and Rothsay participated in the Junior Envirothon at Detroit Mountain on October 2nd.
The competitive event for grades 6-8 is centered around five learning stations. The outdoor, hands-on learning stations are Aquatics, Wildlife, Forestry, Soils, and current issue “Renewable Energy for a sustainable Future in MN".
At each station, resource professionals from various conservation agencies gave a short presentation and asked students to complete a 20-question test. Students worked as a team on answers pertaining to natural resources and their surroundings. Since the event takes place outdoors, questions involve actual contact with natural resources, rather than a pencil and paper approach.
With 37 teams competing, trophies were presented to the 3 teams with the highest scores which were Waubun, Lake Park Audubon, and Detroit Lakes. Congratulations!
