Junior Envirothon

Students from Breckenridge and Rothsay participated in the Junior Envirothon at Detroit Lakes Pavilion/Park on October 6th

The competitive event for grades 6-8 is centered around five learning stations.  The outdoor, hands-on learning stations are Aquatics, Wildlife, Forestry, Soils, and current issue “Water Resource Management:  Local Controls and Local Solutions.

At each station, resource professionals from various conservation agencies gave a short presentation and asked students to complete a 20-question test.  Students worked as a team on answers pertaining to natural resources and their surroundings.  Since the event takes place outdoors, questions involve actual contact with natural resources, rather than a pencil and paper approach.

With 24 teams competing, trophies and t-shirts were presented to the 3 teams with the highest scores which were Holy Rosary-Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls-Kennedy Team #10 and Fergus Falls-Kennedy Team #6.
