2024 Workshop

Make & Paint Rain Barrel Workshop

What is a Rain Barrel??   A rain barrel is a system that collects and stores rainwater from your roof that would otherwise be lost to runoff.

A rain barrel can save a homeowner an average of 1,200 gallons of water during peak summer months.  A 1,200 sq. ft. roof yields an average of 700 gallons of water per inch of rain!  The water can be recycled for gardens and other similar uses.

Homeowners participated in the two-session workshop at Crooked Lane Farms, Colfax ND.

During the first session, participants will view a short presentation on the benefits of a rain barrel and given step by step instructions on the basics of how to construct, install, and maintain it.  Participants then began the construction of their 55-gallon re-purposed barrel by installing the fittings, sanding and priming it.

At the second session, participants will complete the construction and with their creativity, painted their barrel to fit into their landscape.

With so many fantastic benefits of rain barrels, every homeowner should have at least one! Once you experience all of these advantages for yourself, you’ll want to have one on every gutter of your house.

This event is sponsored by the Wilkin SWCD and Richland Soil Conservation District.
