Traveling with Lewis & Clark
Tom Gibson, educational presenter, visited elementary schools in Wilkin and Richland Counties presenting lyceums designed to emphasize the need to protect and conserve our precious natural resources.
Students experienced a bit of the Lewis and Clark Expedition with “Private George Gibson”. Gibson was one of the nine men from Kentucky enlisted in the US Army to join the Corps of Volunteers for the North Western Discovery. The program took the students back to March 1805 at Ft. Mandan and Private Gibson is out hunting. The students interacted with Private Gibson by doing some trading of goods using their sign language skills.
Gibson has other characters in his line-up including a fast-moving energetic game show host “Daren Ewe”; “Pete Bogg” and the Amazing Water Machine, “Gunner” in Water You Doing?”, and “Sam Ting” a delightful Norwegian . All presentations are a part of the Regional Environmental Education Series of “TREES” program.
These lyceums are sponsored annually by the Wilkin SWCD and Richland Soil Conservation District.
