Outstanding Conservation Cooperator

TIM RASMUSSEN RECOGNIZED FOR HIS CONSERVATION EFFORTS
SELECTED AS 2025 OUTSTANDING CONSERVATION COOPERATOR

The Wilkin Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is pleased to announce the selection of Timothy and Jessalyn Rasmussen as the Outstanding Conservation Cooperator for 2025.

Each year, the SWCD recognizes individuals and families who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the conservation and improvement of our natural resources. Tim has earned this recognition through his diverse, adaptive, and forward-thinking approach to land stewardship and sustainable agriculture.

Tim operates a multifaceted farming enterprise on the edge of Glacial Lake Agassiz and the prairie pothole region. The Rasmussen Family farm has been in operation since the 1940s and currently farms corn, soybeans, and edible beans. He addresses challenges unique to this area through crop rotation, reduced tillage, and nutrient management.

In addition to crop production, Tim runs a custom grazing operation using a rotational grazing system that accounts for herd size, forage availability, and seasonal changes. His grazing plan incorporates silvopasture, buffers, and wetland areas to naturally manage nutrients and reduce the need for external manure handling. These practices also support the health of woodlands, wetlands, and riparian buffers.

Tim is a strong advocate for conservation beyond his own operation. Through his business, TR Seeds LLC, he provides seed, guidance, and conservation recommendations to other producers. As a certified Technical Service Provider (TSP) through the NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) in nutrient and pest management, he can spread knowledge beyond his own farm.

Tim’s leadership roles reflect his commitment to the agricultural community. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Otter Tail/Grant Corn & Soybean Association and on the district board of the State Soybean Association. He volunteers as a 4-H judge and was named a Minnesota Corn Growers Agvocate for his efforts to promote conservation and agriculture to the public. Also, a graduate of Texas A&M’s Executive Program for Agricultural Producers (TEPAP) and was recognized in 2022 as an Outstanding Agriculturist by NDSU’s Harvest Bowl.

Tim’s approach to conservation is rooted in diversity, adaptability, and a deep commitment to helping others succeed. His leadership in soil health, nutrient efficiency, and sustainable livestock management makes him a deserving recipient of the Outstanding Conservation Cooperator Award. Along with other Outstanding Cooperators from across Minnesota, Tim and his family will be honored at the 2025 Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) annual convention held in Bloomington, MN, this December.
