Position Objectives:

The Wilkin County Highway Department has an immediate opening for a Highway Maintenance Worker/ Heavy Equipment Operator. This position is responsible for operating, repairing and maintaining equipment, roads, bridges, culverts, buildings and lots. This position is also responsible for snow, ice, and debris removal from roads.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school education or equivalent and two or more years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment and/or a Technical College certification in equipment operation. Must be able to obtain a Class “A” Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months or date of hire.

Salary & Benefits
County employees receive competitive pay and a generous benefit offering. The 2024 salary range for this position is $21.08-$29.17 per hour.

Upon employment offer, must pass background check, pre-employment medical examination, and drug screening. Already certified CDL applicants must also be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse in order to conduct a full query as required by FMCSA.


Please note:  This position is considered a safety-sensitive position due to the essential job duties.  As a safety-sensitive employee, you are subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing.  In addition, you are subject to drug and alcohol testing upon reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, follow-up, and post-accident.


In addition, a pre-employment physical examination is required for this position.  The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.
